Low Momentum Classical Mechanics with Effective Quantum Potentials

چکیده

A recently introduced effective quantum potential theory is studied in a low momentum region of phase space. This low momentum approximation is used to show that the new effective quantum potential induces a space-dependent mass and a smoothed potential both of them constructed from the classical potential. The exact solution of the approximated theory in one spatial dimension is found. The concept of effective transmission and reflection coefficients for effective quantum potentials is proposed and discussed in comparison with an analogous quantum statistical mixture problem. The results are applied to the case of a square barrier. PACS numbers: 05.60.Gg, 03.65.Nk, 03.65.Xp ∗[email protected]

Non Perturbative Renormalization Group and Bose-Einstein Condensation

These lectures are centered around a specific problem, the effect of weak repulsive interactions on the transition temperature Tc of a Bose gas. This problem provides indeed a beautiful illustration of many of the techniques which have been discussed at this school on effective theories and renormalization group. Effective theories are used first in order to obtain a simple hamiltonian describi...

When the classical & quantum mechanical considerations hint to a single point; a microscopic particle in a one dimensional box with two infinite walls and a linear potential inside it

In this paper we have solved analytically the Schrödinger equation for a microscopic particle in a one-dimensional box with two infinite walls, which the potential function inside it, has a linear form. Based on the solutions of this special quantum mechanical system, we have shown that as the quantum number approaches infinity the expectation values of microscopic particle position and square ...

Quasiclassical Theory and Simulations of Strongly Coupled Plasmas

A survey on the dynamical and thermodynamical properties of plasmas with strong Coulomb interactions in the quasi-classical density-temperature region is given. First the basic theoretical concepts describing nonideality are discussed. The chemical picture is introduced. It is shown that the nonideal plasma subsystem of the free charges has a rather large quasi-classical regime, where the quant...

Experimental Study of Quantum Chaos with Cold Atoms

The hallmark of classical chaos in the motion of an ensemble of particles is diffusive growth in momentum and position. A system of quantum particles, in contrast, was predicted by Casati et al. to diffuse in phase space only for a limited time, following the classical prediction [1]. The diffusion is predicted to cease after the “quantum break time” due to quantum interference, and the momentu...

An Effective Quantum Potential for Particle-Particle Interactions in Three-dimensional Semiconductor Device Simulations

The classical Coulomb potential and force can be calculated efficiently using fast multi-pole methods. Effective quantum potentials, however, describe the physics of electron transport in semiconductors more precisely. Such an effective quantum potential was derived previously for the interaction of an electron with a barrier for use in particle-based Monte Carlo semiconductor device simulators...
